Child Suffers Seizure on Kashmir Highway, Stopped by Jawan Amid Yatra Convoy: Mehbooba Mufti Raises Alarm

Srinagar: Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday slammed security forces after alleging that a family with a child suffering a seizure was denied passage on the South Kashmir highway due to Amarnath Yatra restrictions.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mufti said the parents “begged a jawan” to let them pass, but he remained “unmoved and inconsiderate.” She warned that such incidents could prove fatal and deepen public resentment.

“Kashmiris have always welcomed Yatris, but restrictions cannot come at the cost of lives,” she said, urging immediate course correction to avoid turning the Yatra into a source of “helplessness and dread” for locals.

Security forces have yet to respond to the allegation, but the post has reignited debate around civilian hardships caused by convoy movements and highway closures during the Yatra.
