Srinagar: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir, Asif Iqbal from Khanpora, Baramulla is officiating as an umpire in today’s Pakistan vs Afghanistan cricket match.
Born on December 25, 1981, Asif Iqbal as per KDC, has steadily built his career over 17 years, emerging as one of the most respected cricket umpires from the Valley. He began umpiring in 2007 and is currently affiliated with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). He also serves as a member of the ICC International Development Panel.
Iqbal has officiated in several prestigious tournaments including the ACC Premier Cup, ACC Emerging Asia Cup, ACC Women’s Premier Cup, and has stood in ODIs and T20Is hosted in countries such as the UAE, Ireland, Afghanistan, West Indies, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
His umpiring journey also includes the International League T20 (ILT20 2024) and multiple women’s cricket series involving teams from Papua New Guinea, Scotland, USA, and Hong Kong. Recognized as a certified umpire by both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Iqbal continues to make Kashmir proud on the international stage.
