KTMF welcomes Private University Bill, Calls for Safeguards for Local Youth.

Srinagar : Qazi Touseef, representative of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), has welcomed the passage of the Private University Bill, stating that the development of a strong higher education infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir will significantly boost the region’s business ecosystem.

He said that the establishment of such universities will not only enhance educational opportunities but also contribute to sustainable economic growth by creating new avenues for local enterprises.

Referring to post-abrogation concerns, Touseef noted that issues related to reservation for locals remain important. “After the abrogation, there were certain concerns, particularly regarding reservation for locals,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the bill would attract investment, especially in the education sector, and help transform Jammu and Kashmir into a major educational hub in North India in the coming years.

“This will also play a key role in addressing unemployment issues,” he added.

Highlighting the need for inclusive provisions, he said that several states and Union Territories in the Northeast have special safeguards for local populations. “We strongly believe that similar special provisions should be ensured for the local youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” he asserted.
