Anantnag, August 13, 2026: Anantnag Police has arrested two persons for allegedly extorting money from a man by threatening to falsely implicate him in an NDPS case.
Police Station Srigufwara received a complaint from Ajaz Ahmad Shah, son of Mohd Maqbool, resident of Pethi Nambal Mattan, alleging that the accused persons had demanded and received ₹24,000 from him and threatened to implicate him in a false NDPS case if he failed to pay the amount.
Upon receiving the complaint, police verified the allegations and found that the complainant was not involved in any such case. Accordingly, a case was registered at Police Station Srigufwara under FIR No. 68/2026, under Sections 308(2)(6), 318(4) and 351(2) BNS.
During the course of investigation, police identified and arrested both accused persons, namely Muzafar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, resident of Veer Nowbugh Bijbehara, and Jan Mohd Wagay, son of Gh. Rasool, resident of Pethi Nambal Mattan.
The arrests mark a swift police response to the complaint and reaffirm Anantnag Police’s commitment to protecting citizens from intimidation, extortion and misuse of criminal threats.
