Jamia Auqaf Condemns House Arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, Mar 14 : Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has strongly condemned the house arrest of its president and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq, which prevented him from delivering the Friday sermon and offering congregational prayers at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar.

The Anjuman expressed deep disappointment over the authorities’ decision, calling it an arbitrary and unjustified move, especially during the holy month of Ramzan, a time of profound spiritual significance for Muslims. The Jama Masjid serves as a central place of worship where thousands gather for Friday prayers to seek guidance and blessings. The restriction on Mirwaiz from fulfilling his religious duties has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the people.

The Anjuman noted that worshippers from across the region visit the mosque to listen to the Mirwaiz’s sermons and guidance. Preventing him from addressing them, particularly during Ramzan, is an unwarranted restriction on religious freedom.

Demanding the immediate release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Anjuman Auqaf urged the authorities to allow him to carry out his religious obligations, in keeping with the long-standing tradition of the Mirwaizeen in Kashmir. The organisation also called on the faithful to continue their prayers and supplications during this sacred month, seeking Allah’s mercy and guidance while praying for relief from such restrictions.
