Pahalgam terror attack calculated move to trigger communal clashes in India: PM Modi

New Delhi: Stating that the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack was a calculated move to trigger communal clashes in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday said that ‘Operation Sindoor’ sent a clear message that India would no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail or differentiate between terrorists and the governments that shelter them.

Addressing Lok Sabha, PM Modi, according to KNO said, “Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where terrorists killed people after asking their religion. The barbaric attack as an attempt to spark communal violence in the country. But people foiled the nefarious designs of the perpetrators.”

“India thwarted the conspiracy through national unity and the country responded to the attack by targeting terror infrastructure across the border,” he said, adding, “We destroyed terror sites deep inside Pakistan within 22 minutes to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam attack.”

He said that Pakistan had some inkling of India’s response and began issuing nuclear threats. “But when the actual action happened, they could do nothing,” he said, adding, “Operation Sindoor showed the world that India would not bow down to nuclear threats. We have proved that nuclear blackmail will not work anymore,” he said.

PM Modi said that India did not just strike only once. “From Sindoor to Sindhu, India has taken decisive steps,” he said, referring to a broader regional response. He said Indian airstrikes inflicted severe damage on terror camps in Bahawalpur and Muridke. “No one could imagine we could reach there. Pakistani airbases are still in ICU,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the entire country is celebrating the success of the ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a “victory celebration.”

He credited the armed forces for precise and timely action. “This is a celebration of the willpower of 140 crore Indians,” he said.

PM Modi said that earlier, masterminds of attacks were confident nothing would happen, but now they know India will respond. “They are losing sleep now,” the Prime Minister said, adding that India has sent a strong message to those who hatch conspiracies.

PM Modi also said India’s technological capability had played a decisive role. “This is the era of technology-based warfare. If we had not prepared over the past 10 years, the consequences could have been very different,” he said.

He said, “Operation Sindoor marked a shift in India’s defence posture and showcased the strength of a self-reliant military. Made-in-India drones and missiles exposed Pakistan’s weapon system.”

The Prime Minister while referring to the decision to halt “Operation Sindoor” on May 10, said, “Questions raised about the operation and the armed forces were based on misinformation spread by Pakistan, which some individuals within India unfortunately echoed.”

He recalled past military operations, including the surgical strikes and the Balakot airstrike, emphasizing that both missions were completed with precision and success. “In Operation Sindoor, our goal was very clear to dismantle the core infrastructure of terrorism. We struck the main base involved in recruitment, funding, and training of terrorists. Despite numerous challenges, our forces ensured the operation met its objectives.”

He told the House that during the operation, Pakistan pleaded for it to be stopped. “Their (Pak) Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted us, saying we had hit them hard and urged us to call off the attack. But from the beginning, we had made it clear there would be no escalation from our side unless provoked.”

The PM also dismissed suggestions that any international leader pressured India to halt the offensive. “No head of state asked us to stop. On the night of May 9, the US Vice President attempted to contact me several times. I was in meetings with our armed forces and responded later. When we finally spoke, he warned me that Pakistan might launch a significant counterattack. I told him clearly: if Pakistan dares to strike, our response will be far greater and we will not return bullets with bullets, but with cannons.” (KNO)

Commitment of security forces once again foiled Pak’s design to create unrest in Kashmir: LG Sinha

Srinagar: Expressing gratitude to the Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces, and J&K Police for successfully carrying out Operation Mahadev, in which three Pakistani terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack were killed in the Dachigam forest area in Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that all nefarious designs of Pakistan will be thwarted.

Speaking at a function, Kashur Riwaaj 2025, a mega event celebrating Kashmir’s Culture, here in North Kashmir, LG Sinha, according to KNO said, “On behalf of the entire nation and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, I extend my deepest appreciation to our brave security personnel. Their courage and commitment have once again foiled Pakistan’s nefarious designs to create unrest in Kashmir.”

Pertinently, the April 22 attack in Pahalgam had claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mostly tourists, and was widely condemned as an attempt to disrupt Kashmir’s peace and economic recovery. With the elimination of the perpetrators, the LG affirmed that the day is not far when Jammu and Kashmir will be completely free from the scourge of terrorism.

“For decades, Pakistan has been trying to destabilize Kashmir through terror. But our forces have given a clear message through Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor—that terrorism will not be tolerated and will be given a befitting reply. By targeting terror camps deep inside Pakistan, the Indian Army has shown its readiness and capability to strike at the roots of terror anywhere,” the LG said.

He also acknowledged the long-standing role of the Chinar Corps in engaging with the people of the region and promoting initiatives like border tourism and youth outreach programs. “The Army is not just a security provider but a vital partner in development. Their consistent efforts to build trust with locals and provide opportunities to the youth are commendable,” LG Sinha remarked.

REJECT VIOLENCE, FOCUS ON BUILDING PEACEFUL J&K

Extending his heartiest congratulations to 20,000 youth of Baramulla for making history and securing world record title, the LG urged the younger generation to reject violence and focus on building a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. “J&K has always been a knowledge hub. The administration is continuously working to link youth with progressive government schemes. Our whole-of-government approach ensures that the young minds of this region are nurtured and empowered,” he said.

He called upon the youth to utilize their energy in a positive direction and take a stand against the twin threats of terrorism and drug abuse. “Terrorism and drugs are the biggest enemies of our society. The youth must rise against the disruptive elements that promote violence or drug peddling. You cannot live in the past; you must think about the future and your responsibility to make J&K stronger,” he urged.

COUNTER THOSE WHO SPREAD PUBLIC UNREST

“Rise above language, sect, and religion and collectively counter those who spread public unrest. There are disturbing elements in society who attempt to justify terrorism and the killing of innocent lives and try to held hostage the aspirations and dreams of lakhs of youth. Such individuals need to be unmasked,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He sought the cooperation of young generation in the fight against drug menace and to bring the youth who have fallen prey to drug addiction back into the mainstream.

Highlighting that peace is the foundation of development, LG Sinha said, “We are committed to ensuring a peaceful, secure, and progressive future for our youth. The administration stands shoulder to shoulder with them in their journey towards excellence. The enemies of peace have no place in our land.”

BY COMING TOGETHER FOR LADISHAH AND CALLIGRAPHY, YOU HAVE SET A NEW WORLD RECORD

He said, “By coming together for Ladishah and Calligraphy, you have set a new world record.  This accomplishment will serve as an inspiration across the sections of society to reconnect with their heritage, embrace their culture, and uphold their values,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He also lauded the Indian Army and District Administration Baramulla for the commendable endeavour.

“I salute the dedication and commitment of our Army. They are not only safeguarding the nation’s unity and integrity but also actively serving as a custodian of this region’s vibrant cultural heritage and consistently striving to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of our youth.

Unity in diversity is a hallmark of India’s great culture. The Indian Army has consistently worked to harness this power for societal benefit, creating opportunities for youth to strengthen national unity through literature, music, art, and sports,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment of Government of India and J&K Administration, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to empower Youth of J&K.  With a whole-of-government approach, we are working to align the aspirations of youth of Jammu Kashmir with the nation’s aspirations, he said.

“Hopes and dreams of youth can only flourish in a peaceful environment.  Pakistan-backed terrorism and separatism had robbed Jammu and Kashmir of peace, progress, and the youth’s aspirations. Now, Jammu and Kashmir is rapidly moving forward,” the Lieutenant Governor further said.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor announced Guru-Shishya Parampara programme of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Calligraphy course in collaboration of JKAACL with University of Kashmir.

J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages with University of Kashmir is going to launch a 6 month and one year Certificate/ Diploma course in Calligraphy.

Operation Sindoor across LoC, Mahadev in valley; Pahalgam terror plot ends: Amit Shah in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday told the Lok Sabha that all three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu & Kashmir Police on July 28 in the Srinagar forests, marking a major success both in cross-border retaliation and in counter-terror operations within the valley.

The operation, named Mahadev, neutralised Suleman alias Faizal, Afghan, and Jibran—all described as A-category militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“In a joint Operation Mahadev, the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police have neutralised three terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack,” Shah told Parliament, as reported by KNO.

He said the bodies of the three terrorists were brought to Srinagar, where they were identified by individuals who had been detained earlier. These individuals, according to Shah, were those who had supplied food and shelter to the attackers.

“All three terrorists—Suleman, Afghan and Jibran—were killed in yesterday’s operation. The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those detained by our agencies,” he said.

The Home Minister added that Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, while Afghan and Jibran were also listed as A-grade terrorists by the security agencies.

He mentioned that the terrorists had Pakistani voter ID numbers and that Pakistan-made chocolates were recovered from them

On forensic confirmation, Shah said rifles seized from the site matched those used in the Pahalgam attack. “Three rifles were seized from the terrorists. The ballistic report is in my hand, and it has been confirmed by six experts that these were the same rifles used to attack our citizens,” he said. The weapons recovered included two AK-47 rifles and one M-9 carbine.

The HM said forensic testing of cartridges had already been conducted before the operation, and after the seizure of weapons, further tests were carried out in Chandigarh to confirm the link.

He referred to the arrest of those who provided shelter to the attackers. “The NIA had already arrested those who gave them shelter. Those who fed them were detained,” he said.

Recounting his meeting with families affected by the Pahalgam attack, Shah said, “I met the affected families. I saw standing before me a woman who had been widowed just six days after her wedding. I can never forget that scene.”

He added, “Modi ji neutralised those who sent the terrorists, and our security forces killed those who committed the killings.”

Referring to Operation Sindoor, the Home Minister said the Cabinet Committee on Security met on April 30, following which the operation was launched on May 7 between 1:04 am and 1:24 am. “Nine terror sites in Pakistan were destroyed. No Pakistani civilians were killed,” he said.

On May 9, Shah said, 11 of Pakistan’s air bases were targeted, and eight were hit in a way that disrupted the country’s air defence systems. “Our job was completed at 1:26 am on May 7. This is not Manmohan Singh’s government. We will not sit quietly and send dossiers,” he said.

Speaking on the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Amit Shah told Parliament that six of Pakistan’s radar systems were destroyed during the Indian operation. “While Pakistan targeted residential areas, India refrained from retaliating in kind and instead focused solely on military targets,” he said.

“We only attacked their air bases and ruined their attacking capabilities. Our armed forces were intact, and their attacking capacities were destroyed,” he said.

Shah added that, facing significant losses, Pakistan had no choice but to call for a ceasefire. “On May 10, the Pakistani DGMO called our DGMO, and we paused the conflict at 5 pm without any third-party mediation,” he said.

He also commented on the historical context of Pakistan, saying, “Pakistan is Congress’s mistake. If they had not accepted partition, there would have been no Pakistan today.” (KNO)

All three Pahalgam attackers killed in Srinagar encounter: Amit Shah in Parliament

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday informed Parliament that all the three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack earlier this year, have been killed in Operation Mahadev, carried out by security forces in Srinagar.

As per KNO, he said the operation was jointly conducted by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir, Police and the CRPF.

The slain terrorists—identified as Suliman, Afgan and Jibran—were all categorised as A-grade terrorists. “All three were Pakistani nationals. We have their voter card numbers and Pakistan-made chocolates were recovered from them,” he said.

Shah said Suliman, a commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, was involved in both the Pahalgam and Gagangeer attacks. “Security agencies have concrete evidence confirming his role,” he added.

He said the innocent tourists in Pahalgam were brutally killed in front of their family members after being asked about their religion.

He strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families, who lost their loved ones. He added that in retaliation to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan targeted civilian areas, resulting in injuries to several civilians and damage to religious places, including gurdwaras and temples.

Shah also expressed sympathy for those affected in the cross-border firing. (KNO)

PM Modi has power to ‘resolve J&K issue’: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir State, Mehbooba Mufti, on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi can “resolve the issue” of Jammu and Kashmir if he wants. She added that no amount of security will work unless the Government of India (GoI) opens its heart to the people of the region.

Addressing a gathering on the party’s 26th Foundation Day here, Mehbooba, as per KNO, recalled the vision of her late father and party founder, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, saying the PDP has always stood for peace through dialogue and political engagement.

She urged PM Modi to “shift away from the militarised policy” in J&K, saying, “If anyone has the power to resolve Jammu and Kashmir’s issue, it is PM Modi. He has got the mandate of over 120 crore people.”

Mufti stressed the PDP’s core belief in political dialogue, saying, “We never compromised on our belief that only political engagement can bring lasting peace.”

Criticising the Centre’s heavy reliance on security forces in Kashmir, she said, “They keep sending more CRPF companies to Kashmir. But how much security will you deploy? Will that solve anything? You can’t win hearts with guns and bunkers.”

She raised concerns about India’s growing military spending, pointing to inequality in basic services. “We are spending billions on weapons while schools in many parts of the country don’t even have clean drinking water or toilets,” she said.

On India’s foreign policy approach, the PDP chief said, “What is India’s foreign policy without addressing Jammu and Kashmir? What have we achieved from decades of hostility? Pakistan invested in weapons, and India turned Kashmir into a heavily militarised zone. Meanwhile, China surged ahead economically. Even our own External Affairs Minister has acknowledged this reality.”

Unless the GoI opens its heart to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, no amount of security or surveillance will work, she said.

Pertinently, a massive gathering marked the Foundation Day celebrations in Srinagar, in which the party workers and supporters from across the region participated.

“The event witnessed an overwhelming sea of people from every corner of Kashmir, reflecting the enduring resonance of Mufti’s vision of social justice, peace with dignity, dialogue, and the healing touch policy,” a party spokesperson said. (KNO)

Licences of Five Medical shops suspended in Bijbehara for violating drug regulations

Srinagar: The Drug Control Department on Monday suspended the licences of five medical shops in Kanelwan, Bijbehara, for violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

During the inspections, operations of Rather Pharmacy, Friends Pharmacy, Naikoo Medical Store, Wani Chemists and Druggists, and Care N Cure Pharmacy were disallowed for failing to maintain mandatory records as required under the law.

The inspection team also sensitized chemists about the importance of maintaining proper sales records and directed them to issue cash memos to patients for every purchase without fail. Officials said the department is committed to ensuring strict adherence to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act across the district.

Expecting ‘something’ this Monsoon session, says CM Omar on statehood restoration

Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he is expecting the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament.

Talking to the reporters here, Omar, as per KNO said the party won’t go on strike at least till the Monsoon session is ongoing. “We are expecting something in this session. If there is no progress on statehood restoration, then we will talk after that,” he said.

Regarding today’s encounter, Omar termed the reports of the killing of a terrorist involved in the recent Pahalgam attack as a positive development, asserting that security forces, including police and Army, have been pursuing terrorists since the attack took place. “If anyone among those involved has been killed today, it’s a good thing,” he said.

Although it has not been confirmed yet, it is a ‘good thing’ if anyone amongst them has been killed today, he added.

Omar said that while the discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament is appreciable, the Pahalgam attack must also be discussed.

“When Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has admitted intelligence and security failures, it is imperative to discuss who has been held accountable,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister visited the bereaved family of Gujjar youth, Parvez Ahmad, who was killed in crossfire when police were chasing suspected peddlers. Omar was accompanied by his Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani and Minister Javid Rana.

The CM had earlier called for an impartial and time-bound probe into the incident. (KNO)

Operation Sindoor paused, will resume if Pakistan commits any ‘misadventure’: Rajnath tells Parliament

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament on Monday that India’s stance remains firm that terrorism and talks cannot go together. He said Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack, has only been paused and will resume with greater force if Pakistan engages in any future “misadventure”.

Addressing the Lok Sabha during a discussion on India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, Singh, as reported by KNO, said Operation Sindoor was a decisive military response that achieved all its stated objectives without targeting civilians.

The operation was launched after a detailed assessment by the Indian armed forces, he said, adding that the purpose of the operation was to target terrorist camps, their supporters, and to destroy them.

Operation Sindoor, according to Rajnath, was not a campaign to occupy land or escalate to full-scale war, but a targeted strike. “Our aim was not to occupy territory or start a full-scale war. It was only to locate and destroy terror camps,” he said, adding that India’s defence systems ensured that no critical assets were harmed during the conflict.

The Defence Minister said that coordinated strikes were carried out on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). “The operation was completed within 22 minutes,” he said, adding that over 100 terrorists were killed.

The strikes on May 10 also targeted key Pakistani air bases, including Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi, PAF Base Mushaf in Sargodha, Bholari Air Base, and PAF Base Shahbaz in Jacobabad.

Singh said India informed Pakistan in advance about the nature of the strikes. “On May 7, Indian DGMO called the Pakistan DGMO and informed him about the rationale of the attacks; told him they were non-escalatory,” he said.

Rejecting suggestions that the operation was paused under external pressure, Rajnath said, “This is completely wrong. In my political life, I have tried not to speak untruths.” He said the operation was paused only after achieving the political and military objectives defined before and during the conflict.

He recalled that India had made multiple efforts over the years to build peaceful relations with Pakistan. “Whenever India extended a hand of friendship, the response was war,” he said. “We once spoke the language of the Lahore bus journey, but Pakistan did not understand that. We now respond with the Balakot strike.”

The Defence Minister said the armed forces were granted full operational freedom, including the authority to select targets. He clarified that the objective was not to wage war, but to compel the adversary to back down in the face of India’s military strength.

Referring to previous actions like the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot air strike, Singh said the government had adopted a new approach. “Our government made numerous efforts to establish peace. But later, through these operations and now Operation Sindoor, we have taken a different path.”

“If there is any misadventure in the future, the operation will resume,” he said, adding that the global community had condemned the Pahalgam attack and backed India’s right to respond.

Rajnath also recalled the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, calling it one of the deadliest in India’s history. He said the government in power at the time failed to respond effectively, and noted that no major global platform, including the BRICS joint declaration, even acknowledged the attack.

Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a firm approach to tackling terrorism, including cross-border strikes inside Pakistan, a policy he believes earlier governments should have adopted. He also noted that during the SCO defence ministers’ meeting, no joint statement was released because India refused to soften its position on terrorism.

The Defence Minister said India has shifted its approach to dealing with terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said that instead of sending dossiers, India now responds with action aimed at dismantling the source of terrorist activity. According to Singh, this approach is based on the idea that India must directly address the origin of cross-border threats and has the capacity to act when required.

Rajnath said that the current government has adopted a clear and structured policy in response to national security threats. “Under Prime Minister Modi, India does not stop at documentation. It goes to the root of terrorism and has the strength to uproot it,” he said.(KNO)
