Srinagar, May 02 : At least two persons drowned on Friday after a boat capsized in Dal Lake near Duck Park amid gusty winds. However, one among them has been rescued while the search operation is going on to trace the other missing individual.

Amid gusty winds, two individuals in the boat jumped into Dal Lake. One among them was rescued while the other remains missing.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the incident occurred this afternoon when the two individuals were fishing in the boat near Duck Park, Srinagar.

The official added that the duo jumped in the Dal Lake after the boat was hit by the strong winds.

Meanwhile, officials from the SDRF Srinagar told KNO that two individuals were on the boat, and one is still missing, while the other has been rescued.

The official confirmed that they have alerted the headquarters, which has sent dive teams and additional boats for the rescue operation. The search is ongoing.

The rescued individual has been identified as Abdul Majeed Khosa, son of Mohammad Sultan Khosa, a resident of Rainawari, Srinagar—(KNO)

Brief Wet Spell Likely in J&K Till May 5; Dry Weather From May 6 to 8: Director MeT

 

Srinagar, May 2 : The Meteorological Department on Friday forecasted a spell of wet weather in Jammu and Kashmir starting from May 2, followed by a brief dry period and then another round of rain and thunder.

Talking to news agency JKNS, Director MeT Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said, “From 2nd to 5th May, there is a possibility of brief spells of rain and thundershower at scattered places, accompanied by gusty winds.”

He said the weather is likely to remain “generally dry” between May 6 and 8. “From 9th to 11th May, fresh spells of rain, thunder and gusty winds are expected,” he added.

Issuing an advisory, the department said: “All concerned are advised to follow administrative and traffic advisories.”

“There is a possibility of intense thundershowers, thunder, lightning and gusty winds (40–50 km/h) at isolated to scattered places,” Dr. Mukhtar said.

He also advised farmers to plan accordingly. “Farmers are advised to continue farm operations from 6th May onwards,” he said. (JKNS)

Youth Dies in Chursoo Toll Plaza Awantipora Accident

 

Srinagar, May 02 : A 26-year-old youth from Pampore succumbed to injuries following a road accident near the Chursoo Toll Plaza in Awantipora on Friday.

Officials told news agency JKNS the injured person, identified as Farhad Fayaz, a resident of Chandhara Pampore.

He was initially evacuated to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara for treatment, however he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission, official said.

Cognizance of the incident has been taken and further proceedings were underway (JKNS)

Prominent cleric Maulana Mubarak Mubarki passes away

 

Srinagar, May 02 : Renowned Islamic scholar and preacher, Maulana Mubarak Mubarki, president of Bazm-e-Tawheed and Khateeb of Bazar Masjid, passed away on Friday, leaving behind a legacy of faith, unity, and service.

Known for his wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to Islamic teachings, Maulana Mubarki touched countless lives through his sermons and religious guidance.

One of his family members told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that his funeral will be held in two parts – first at 2:30 pm at his residence in Sanat Nagar, and later at 4 pm at Bohri Kadal Chowk near Bazar Masjid.

He said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is expected to lead the funeral prayers at Bazar Masjid.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Dr Umar Farooq also expressed deep sorrow over his demise, calling it a personal loss.

“A few weeks ago, I visited him to inquire about his health. Despite his frailty, he recognised me and spoke with warmth and clarity. His death is a misfortune for Kashmir,” he said—(KNO)

Hepatitis Outbreak Sparks Concern Among Residents in Tral’s Nai Bugh Area

 

Tral, South Kashmir,May 2 : – A hepatitis outbreak in the Nai Bugh area of Tral has triggered widespread concern among local residents. The disease, believed to be spreading due to contaminated drinking water, has particularly affected children in the village, leading to a growing sense of alarm within the community.

In response to the situation, Block Medical Officer of Tral, Ms. Jawahira, stated that a team of health experts has been formed to address the issue. “The team will immediately visit the affected area to assess the situation and take necessary health measures,” she said.

Local authorities and health officials are urging residents to take precautions and avoid consuming untreated water as investigations and medical interventions are underway.(CNS)

Former cashier-cum-clerk of J&K Grameen Bank gets 3-yr imprisonment for committing financial fraud

 

Srinagar, May 02: The Special Judge Anti-corruption (CBI cases) has sentenced a former cashier-cum-clerk of J&K Grameen bank to three years simple imprisonment for committing a financial fraud.

According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) convict (now retired) Javed Habib, who was working at the Kupwara branch of the bank committed the fraud during the period 28/06/2007 to 31/12/2010 to the tune of Rs 19.12,500/- lakhs by making fictitious credit/debit entries in relevant ledgers and bank documents of various account holders of the said bank.

The judgment reads: “The accused is sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 409 RPC, simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 420 RPC, simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 467 RPC, simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 468 RPC, simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 471 RPC, simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 477 RPC and simple imprisonment for a term of three years and fine Rs.10,000/- for the offence U/S 5(2) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt. 2006.

All the imprisonments imposed in different sections herein above shall run concurrently.”
It said, “In case of failing to pay fine imposed herein above in different sections, accused shall undergo simple imprisonment of one month each in default in every section mentioned above in the same sequence but that imprisonment in case of failing to pay fine shall run separately after actual imprisonment of three years is over.”

“The accused shall be lodged at Central Jail Srinagar for undergoing this sentence/imprisonment. The period of custody/detention whether police or judicial already undergone by accused in this case be set off against this sentence,” it said—(KNO)

Train services suspended as truck rolls down on track at Qazigund

 

Qazigund, May 01 : The train services were on Thursday suspended after a truck rolled down onto the railway track at Qazigund.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a truck bearing registration number JK02AT-5895 has rolled down the cutting at km 167/10-11 between Banihal – Qazigund (Hiller) on the track.

Soon after the incident occurred, the train services have been suspended and clearance work was started.

An official told KNO that the train services have been suspended since early morning.

“Machinery was deployed to the spot, but due to the heavy weight of the truck, it could not be removed. We have roped in the Army to assist in removing the truck from the track,” he added.

Train operations will remain suspended until the truck is cleared from the track—(KNO)

GMC Anantnag Conducts Biomedical Research Methodology Workshop

 

ANANTNAG, 01 May : The Department of Community Medicine GMC Anantnag successfully organized a Biomedical Research Methodology Workshop for postgraduate students from April 28- 29 2025 at Main Campus Dialgam at GMC Anantnag

The objective of the workshop was to enhance the research capabilities of postgraduate DNB students by providing a comprehensive understanding of biomedical research methods. Key topics included Formulation of research question, aims and objectives, sample size calculation, review of literature,research design, data collection techniques, biostatistics,incidence and prevalence, ethical issues in research, diagostic accuracy ,synopsis/ thesis writing and bibliography.

The workshop was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Fouzia Nazir Head, Department of Community Medicine GMC Anantnag. She highlighted the department’s commitment to academic growth. “This workshop reflects our ongoing efforts to integrate research training into postgraduate education.”she added

Dr Mahbooba Rasool Associate Professor community Medicine and MEU Coordinator, also appreciated the initiative. “Medical Education today demands not only clinical competence but also the ability to engage in research and innovation.

Class 10th Results Today at 10 PM: JKBOSE Official

 

Srinagar, Apr 30 : Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education is set to declare Class 10th annual regular results today late evening, officials said.

A top official in the Board of School Education confirmed to news agency JKNS that annual regular results of Class 10th will be declared today late evening.

“Results are almost ready, and we are declaring them at around 10 PM today, maybe a few minutes up or down,” the official said.

It is important to mention that JKBOSE Class 10th exams began on February 15, 2025, and concluded on March 19, 2025. (JKNS)

Class 12th Results to Be Declared Tomorrow Afternoon: JKBOSE Official

 

Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education is set to declare Class 12th annual regular results on Wednesday (tomorrow) afternoon, officials said.

A top official in the Board of School Education confirmed to news agency JKNS that annual regular results of Class 12th will be declared (tomorrow) on Wednesday afternoon.

Results being declared shortly are just rumours, the official said.

It is important to note that more than 93,000 students wrote the Class 12th annual regular examination, which commenced on 16th February.

As per the official figures, 1,02,298 students across Jammu and Kashmir have registered for the Class 12th annual regular examination, out of which 93,586 fall in soft zone areas while 8,712 students fall in hard zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

The J&K Board has set up 989 exam centres—873 in soft zone areas and 116 exam centres in hard zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir for the students of Class 12th.

This year, the Class 10th to 12th board examinations were scheduled in the month of February as the government restored the previous November session in schools. (JKNS)
