Punish Guilty But Don’t Let Innocent People Become Collateral Damage: Omar

0

Srinagar, April 28 : Amid massive crackdown against militants and their sympathizers alongside demolition of houses of ultras by blasting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that while guilty should be punished without mercy; innocent people shouldn’t become collateral damage.

“After the Pahalgam terror attack, there must be a decisive fight against terrorism and its origin. People of Kashmir have come out openly against terrorism and the murder of innocent people, they did this freely & spontaneously,” Omar said in a post on X. “It’s time to build on this support and avoid any misplaced action that alienates people. Punish the guilty, show them no mercy but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage,” he added.

Omar’s statement came hours after party colleague from National Conference and Member Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi in a brief post on ‘X’ said that “Kashmir and Kashmiris are being given a collective punishment.”

Earlier, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said the Government of India should tread carefully and avoid alienating innocent people while acting against terrorists.

“The Government of India must tread with caution and carefully distinguish between terrorists and civilians following the recent Pahalgam attack,” she said in a post as per GNS, urging Centre “must not alienate innocent people, especially those opposing terror.

“There are reports of thousands being arrested and scores of houses of common kashmiris being demolished along with those of militants,” she said, adding, “Appeal Government to direct the authorities to take care that innocent people are not made to feel the brunt as alienation aids terrorists goals of division and fear.”

J&K Peoples Conference President and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone said that using “collectiveness to define criminality or terrorism is a curse and will never allow reconciliation and social introspection.”

“The mass protests against the Pahalgam killings was a rare occurrence, a first of its kind in the last 78 years. It showed a shift in mindset from a society in which some significant sections may have accorded social sanctity to the concept of violence —— to a society which matched in thousands across villages and towns condemning violence thereby signifying the social stigmatisation of violence,” he said, adding, “This a monumntal shift, a milestone. But at the same time, a fragile shift.

I hope those in charge of law and order do understand the significance of the shift and don’t do anything erroneously which impedes the shift Or facilitates a return to the earlier mindset.

There is a general feeling across the valley that whole family is being punished for the actions of one person. We approached the court also and termed it as a form of collective punishment, inspired by the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871, where the British were convinced of their criminality and and attributed it to their ancestry.”

He said using Collectiveness to define criminality or terrorism is a curse and will never allow reconciliation and social introspection.

“I hope what has been achieved in the aftermath of the heinous carnage in Pahalgam, is understood by those at the helm. And these precious gains are not frittered away,” he added.

In February this year, Mehbooba and Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone had welcomed the J&K and Ladakh High Court’s ruling that an individual cannot be denied a passport just because a family member was involved in militancy.

She had termed the ruling as a “step in the right direction” while strongly criticizing what she described as the weaponization of travel restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019.

“The honourable High Court’s decision of not denying a passport to an individual for merely being related to a militant is certainly a step in the right direction. Given how even the basic fundamental right to travel is being weaponised brutally since 2019 in J&K,” the PDP President had said in a post on X.

The court had emphasized that the decision to issue a passport must be based on the applicant’s own actions rather than those of their relatives.

The High Court direction came in a plea filed by a resident of Ramban, who had filed an application for passport issuance in 2021. However, his application was kept pending due to an adverse police verification report that Malik’s late brother, Mohammad Ayaz Malik, was a militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen and was killed in an encounter in 2011, while his father was an enlisted over ground worker (OGW). The petitioner in his plea asserted that there were no criminal charges against him and that he was being unfairly penalized for his family’s past. Sajad too had lauded the judgment by the High Court.(GNS)

Results to be declared by April-30 or May-01

Riyaz Bhat

Srinagar, Apr 26 (KNO): For the first time, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) is mulling to announce the results of 10th and 12th standard on the same date.

Besides, the board has further clarified that it is planning to announce the results by April-30 or May-01.

The top officials of BOSE informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the board was trying to set a new trend of announcing multiple results on the same day.

“As of now, we are expecting to announce the results of 12th standard on April-30,” the official said.

It also said, “80 percent chance of declaring the results of 12th standard is on April-30 but in case there will be any change, the results will be declared on May-01.”

“We may declare the results of 10th standard on the same date we have scheduled the 12th class,” he said.

The official however further said that in case of 10th standard results, the board has three days from April-30 to May-02.

“We want to set some new precedents and trends of declaring different results on the same day. BOSE will most likely announce the twin results of 10th and 12th classes on the same day,” the official said.

He said, “My staff is working round the clock so that we can announce the results of both classes on the same date.”

The official said that nearly 3,55,963 students were registered for the annual regular examination of class 10th, 11th and 12th including 1,32,992 candidates of 10th standard, 1,20,673 in 11th standard and 1,02,298 students of 12th standard respectively.

Coaching Centre in Srinagar Exposed for ‘Faking Student’s Score’ Allegedly to Attract Admissions. QR Code Reveals Truth Behind Fabricated 99.84 Percentile Claim

0

Srinagar, Apr 21 : In a shocking revelation, a coaching centre in Srinagar has been caught red-handed for misleading the public by falsely claiming that one of its students secured an extraordinary 99.84 percentile in the JE (Joint Entrance) examination, whereas her actual percentile was only 73.2.

A Kashmir News Trust (KNT) investigation found that ‘SKIE Classes,’ the coaching centre in question, had circulated a tampered PDF version of the student’s scorecard on social media through its affiliated network of Facebook influencers. The doctored score sheet, which showed a significantly inflated percentile, was aggressively pushed online, earning the centre widespread publicity.

However, the scam unraveled when tech-savvy users scanned the QR code embedded in the PDF, which revealed the student’s authentic percentile of 73.2—well below the 94 percentile cut-off required for the JE qualification.

Education experts have strongly condemned the fraudulent act, terming it a serious breach of trust. “This appears to be a calculated move aimed at luring fresh admissions, considering it’s currently the peak season for enrollments,” an education sector analyst told KNT. “Editing a government-issued document is a serious offense. The student could not have done it alone—clearly, the centre orchestrated the entire thing.”

The student, whose identity is being withheld for privacy reasons, was reportedly presented to social media content creators under dubious circumstances—either by coercion or manipulation. These Facebook hawkers filmed and circulated videos celebrating her so-called ‘historic achievement,’ further fueling the deception.

Ironically, the centre described the fabricated percentile as a “historic moment,” exploiting both the innocence of the student and the trust of the public. “A student who herself hasn’t qualified was showcased as a topper,” said the education expert, adding that such conduct highlights how low some coaching institutes can stoop for profit.

Observers also criticized certain media outlets for broadcasting the fake achievement without verification, allegedly in return for monetary favors. “This is not just a case of one student’s score being faked—it’s a glaring example of how educational ethics are being trampled for quick financial gains,” said a parent who had considered enrolling their child at SKIE Classes.

Authorities have been urged to take strict action against the coaching institute, not only for document tampering but also for misleading the public and exploiting the student. “Let this serve as a wake-up call—percentile and percentage are not the same, and fake claims will not go unnoticed,” said another concerned educator.

As public trust in private coaching institutes continues to erode, this incident underscores the urgent need for regulatory oversight and ethical accountability in Kashmir’s private education sector.

When contacted by Kashmir News Trust, an official from the coaching centre claimed that the student’s parents had informed them of an alleged discrepancy in the QR code-linked result and had reportedly received an email from the National Testing Agency (NTA) confirming a 99.84 percentile. He urged the news agency to hold off on publishing the report until the matter was clarified. When confronted with the allegation of misleading the public, the official responded that they initially received a screenshot reflecting the 99.84 percentile, followed by a PDF document showing the same score.[KNT]

J&K ruling alliance partners hold crucial meet, pass 2 resolutions

“Do not push us to the Wall”: NC tells GoI

This is the final appeal—respect people’s mandate,” says Tanvir Sadiq

SRINAGAR, APRIL 04 – Soon after a crucial meeting at Deputy Chief Minister’s Fairview residence—chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and attended by around 46 MLAs—the ruling National Conference (NC) issued a stern warning to the central government. The party urged New Delhi “one last time” not to undermine the people’s massive mandate in J&K and to allow the democratically elected government to function without interference.

According to a statement, the meeting was convened to discuss the political and administrative implications of the recent transfer of 48 JKAS officers by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Speculations had been rife that the alliance would deliberate on its future course of action in response to the LG administration’s decision.

Soon after the meeting concluded on Friday afternoon, NC’s Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, accompanied by Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, addressed the media.

“Today’s meeting focused on key issues, including the Waqf Bill passed in Parliament. This Bill is against Muslims and minorities in the country, and we oppose it. Another critical issue was the mandate given by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the NC-led government. We have once again demanded that the Government of India respect this mandate—it is non-negotiable. These two resolutions were unanimously passed today,” Tanvir told reporters.

Stating that the Centre should not misconstrue their cooperation as weakness, Tanvir added, “We are making this appeal for the last time—not as a request but as a firm warning: Do not push us to the wall.”

Congress leader Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, who also attended the meeting, told reporters that both long-term and short-term issues were discussed in detail. “Some senior leaders couldn’t attend, but I was mandated to represent the Congress alongside other leaders,” he said.

“All MLAs in the government stand firmly behind the leader of the House. On sensitive matters like the Waqf Bill and public mandate, there is unanimous agreement that these issues must be resolved through dialogue with the Centre.”
