Srinagar MBBS student Saba Rasool dies in Iran

0

Srinagar: Saba Rasool, a fourth-year medical student from Safakadal, Srinagar, who was pursuing her MBBS at Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran, passed away following health complications.

Family sources confirmed to KNO that Saba had complained of pain two days ago and was admitted to a hospital there.

They said that after battling for her life, she died last night at around 3:00 am.

Meanwhile, the family has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, for the urgent repatriation of her body to Kashmir for last rites.

Saba’s family and neighbors in Srinagar have expressed deep grief at her untimely demise. They are urging the authorities to expedite the repatriation process so that she can be laid to rest in her hometown according to local customs.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has written to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, seeking his urgent humanitarian intervention for the swift repatriation of the mortal remains of Sabha Rasool, a 27-year-old MBBS student from Safakadal, Srinagar.

The Association has also urged the Ministry to take up the matter with Iranian authorities to initiate a thorough probe into allegations of gross medical negligence.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister, National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said that Sabha Rasool, a fourth-year MBBS student at Urmia University of Medical Sciences, passed away following a sudden deterioration in her health, leaving her family, friends, and community in deep shock and inconsolable grief. “Her friends and batchmates, who were present during her illness and at the hospital, have alleged that her death may have been the result of gross medical negligence,” the letter to Dr. Jaishankar reads.

According to the account provided by her friends, Saba had been experiencing nausea and vomiting for several days. They claimed it took three hours for a regular ambulance to arrive, and upon reaching the hospital, she was allegedly made to wait for two hours before being allotted a bed in the Emergency Ward (Urjanas). “Despite her critical condition, she was reportedly kept only on normal saline for two days and given painkillers only when she complained of pain. Friends allege that her vitals were not checked for an entire day and there was no regular monitoring,” the letter stated.

The Association said that after repeated requests to transfer her to the GI Ward, she was moved from the Emergency Ward to a corridor outside the GI Ward. Later, she was shifted to the International Patient Department (IPD), where her condition reportedly deteriorated further. “Friends say she developed seizures, her vitals became unstable, and she experienced tachycardia. She was then moved to the ICU. On the final day, she stopped speaking and kept her eyes closed,” it added.

Quoting one of her friends, the Association said; “Till the time she was stable, we were provided with all her reports. However, after her condition worsened, no medical reports have been shared with us.”

Doctors cited the cause of death as fulminant hepatic failure (acute liver failure) along with pulmonary complications. However, her friends and fellow students alleged that until her death, the doctors were unable to diagnose her exact illness.

He said that Family needs immediate assistance in bringing the young students’ mortal remains back for thr last rites at her ancestral area. He urged the External Affairs Minister to take up the matter with the concerned authorities in Iran to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation, and to press for strict action against the hospital if negligence is confirmed. “At the same time, the bereaved family’s immediate and desperate priority is to bring the mortal remains home and perform her last rites in her homeland in accordance with our cultural and religious traditions,” it said.

Calling it “a desperate plea from a devastated family seeking both justice and the opportunity to see their daughter one last time,” the Association’s Iran Unit Coordinator Faizan Aishna said that Dr. Jaishankar’s timely intervention “will not only bring solace to their shattered hearts but also reaffirm India’s commitment to the dignity and protection of its citizens abroad.”

He urged External Affairs Minister to intervene urgently to liaise with Iranian authorities and ensure that all humanitarian and administrative procedures are completed at the earliest, so that Sabha Rasool’s family can receive her mortal remains without unnecessary delay and accord her the dignified farewell she deserves. Won’t tolerate nuclear threats, ‘Operation Sindoor’ punished enemy beyond imagination: PM Modi

In his 12th consecutive Independence Day address from the ramparts of Red Fort, PM Modi, according to KNO said, “I salute the valour of our bravehearts. Through Operation Sindoor, our soldiers have responded with a force beyond the enemy’s imagination. On April 22nd (Pahalgam terror attack), terrorists from across the border targeted and killed innocent civilians after asking their religion. The entire nation was enraged, and the entire world was shocked by such a massacre. Operation Sindoor is the expression of that outrage.”

PM Modi said, “Destruction in Pakistan is so massive that new revelations are being made every day and new information is coming out daily.” “I am very proud that from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I am getting the opportunity to salute the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Our brave jawans punished the enemy beyond its imagination.”

PM Modi said, “After the 22nd (April), we gave a free hand to our armed forces. They decide the strategy, target and time. Our forces did what had never been done for several decades. We entered hundreds of kilometres into the enemy soil and razed their terrorist headquarter to the ground.”

BLOOD AND WATER WILL NOT FLOW TOGETHER

Prime Minister Modi said, “India has now decided, blood and water will not flow together. The people have come to realize that the Indus Waters Treaty is unjust. Water from the Indus River system has been irrigating the lands of the enemy, while the farmers and the land of my own country remain thirsty without water. This was such an agreement that has caused unimaginable damage to the farmers of my country for the last seven decades. Now, the right over the water belongs only to the farmers of India.”

AATMANIRBHAR BHARAT DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO OUR STRENGTH

“Today, I urge the young scientists, talented youth, engineers, professionals and all departments of the Government that we should have our jet engines for our own Made in India fighter jets,” PM Modi said.

He said, “We have seen the wonders of Made in India in Operation Sindoor. Even the enemy was shocked at the kind of ammunition that was destroying them within seconds. Had we not been self-reliant, would we have been able to carry out Operation Sindoor at such a level? In the last 10 years, we set our target to become self-reliant in the defence sector, and today we are seeing the results.”

NATURE IS TESTING ALL OF US

Referring to the natural disasters, PM Modi said, “In the past few days, we have been facing natural disasters, landslides, cloudbursts, and many other calamities. There are members of Panchayats from far-flung villages, representatives of Drone Didi, representatives of Lakhpati Didi, people from the world of sports, great people who have given something or the other to the nation and life are present here. IDEA OF SEMICONDUCTOR WAS KILLED IN WOMB 50-60 YEARS AGO

PM Narendra Modi said, “When we speak of different aspects of technology, I draw your attention to semiconductors, as an example. I am not at the Red Fort to criticise any government; I do not want to do it. But the youth of the country should know about it. File work on semiconductors began 50-60 years ago in our country. The idea of semiconductor factory came forth 50-60 years ago. You would be surprised to know that the idea of semiconductor was killed in the womb 50-60 years ago. We lost 50-60 years,” he said.

We are also working towards building our own Space Station. I am proud that more than 300 startups of the country are working just in space sector. Among those 300 startups, thousands of youth are working with full capability.

This is the strength of the youth of our country and this is our trust in th youth of our country.”

GST REFORMS WOULD COME AS A “DIWALI GIFT” FOR PEOPLE

LG greets people on 79th Independence Day

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has greeted the people of J&K UT on the occasion of 79th Independence Day.

In a message, the Lieutenant Governor wrote: “My dear brothers and sisters of Jammu Kashmir, On the sacred occasion of our 79th Independence Day, I convey my heartiest greetings and good wishes to all of you. This is a day we salute our tricolor and feel pride in watching it fly high in the sky. I also join every citizen in paying homage to all the freedom fighters and founding fathers of the nation, who made great sacrifices to realize the dream of an Independent India. On this momentous occasion, let us solemnly remember all the martyrs. The remembrance of their martyrdom will forever live on in our hearts. Their sacrifices have left a lasting impression that transcends time and will always inspire us. I pay tribute to civilian martyrs, who were brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22.

While the country is celebrating the festival of Independence, my heart also goes out to the families affected by cloudburst in Chashoti, Kishtwar. I am devastated by this natural calamity and express my condolences to the bereaved families. We are working with the Whole of Government Approach to bring the situation under control and provide all the necessary assistance to the affected families.

Today, on this auspicious day of Independence, I offer my heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces, the CAPFs and Jammu Kashmir Police whose eternal vigil and protection of every citizen under challenging circumstances have ushered in peace enabling all of us to work towards future progress, prosperity and inclusive development of this beautiful Union Territory. I also thank our armed forces, our brave soldiers, security, intelligence agencies and every personnel involved in ‘Operation Sindoor’ for their bravery and commitment to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. It is also a day to salute our valiant soldiers of Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police for successful ‘Operation Mahadev’ and send them good wishes for their dedication in the service of the nation. India has drawn a new red line. Any act of terror will be considered as an act of war and we will give the enemy a fitting response. On this day, let us also take a pledge to foil the efforts of terrorists, dismantle the entire ecosystem of terrorism to make Jammu Kashmir terror-free.

Today, I also extend my felicitations to farmers, workers, teachers, professionals, scientists, business communities, youth and Nari Shakti for their tremendous contributions towards socio-economic growth of Jammu Kashmir. I have full faith in their abilities in building Viksit Bharat. The 21st Century is a century of India and Jammu Kashmir is deeply connected to the aspirations of our great nation. Tiranga Yatra is now one of our biggest festivals and entire Jammu Kashmir participates in Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan. The patriotic fervor and involvement of men, women, youths and senior citizens holding the glorious Tricolour across the UT is an inspiration for the country.

Jammu Kashmir has received a strong development thrust in the past five years and we have built a Union Territory which is prosperous, peaceful, just, humane and treating all its citizens as equal. Democracy has become stronger in the Union Territory. Today, Jammu Kashmir is on the move full of self-confidence and ready to contribute in nation building. We are marching together with just one identity as Indian and determined to serve Mother India till the last breath.

Having walked seventy-nine long years since independence, it is time for every section of society to introspect on the goals achieved so far and contemplate future course of action. Pujya Mahatma Gandhiji had once said about his dreams of an Independent India. Gandhi Ji had said, “I will work for an India where the poorest of the poor feel that this country and this nation belongs to them and that they have a major role in its construction”. In the past five years, my effort was to build Jammu Kashmir of Pujya Gandhi Ji’s dream. We have excelled in many areas. Kashmir is now connected to India’s rail network and the dream of Kashmir to Kanyakumari rail connectivity is now a reality. Industrial development has taken deep roots. The benefits of unprecedented economic growth have reached all sections of society. Ease of living has been ensured for both urban and rural population. Women, youth and farmers have been empowered. The entire world is witnessing the transformation of Jammu Kashmir and it is my firm belief that with collective participation of people we will create a bright and peaceful Jammu Kashmir.

Let all of us reaffirm our commitment to work shoulder to shoulder and build a Viksit Bharat. I appeal to all to contribute their fullest to this momentous task. With these words, I once again greet everyone on the occasion of Independence Day”. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!. (KNO)

Flash floods hit multiple areas as rains bring down mercury in Kashmir

0

Srinagar: Flash floods occurred in several locations across Kashmir on Thursday, while intermittent light rains continued in other parts, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. The ongoing rainfall has contributed to a dip in temperatures across the valley.

According to reports gathered by KNO, flash floods affected areas such as Kawcherwan and Kangan, Gund, Sumbal, Frislan, and Batkoot in Pahalgam, Qazi Nallah in Karnah, Ichoo Nallah in Kokernag, and others.

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng confirmed these incidents, saying a massive flash flood occurred in the Saspol area of Leh along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.

Authorities have advised residents to stay away from rivers and streams as a precaution. Keng said that “nothing alarming” is currently happening, as the surge appears localised and is being monitored continuously. He urged caution but assured there is no immediate threat.

Meteorological officials said that with vigilance and timely alerts, the situation remains under control. Water levels are under close watch, and rescue teams are on standby in case of emergencies, they said.

Rainfall persisted intermittently throughout the day in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir. The IMD’s detailed report states that Pahalgam received 33.6 mm of rain, Gulmarg recorded the highest with 47.2 mm by 5:30 PM. Srinagar saw 1.5 mm; Qazigund 0.4 mm; Kupwara 1.8 mm; and Kokernag 0.4 mm.

An official advisory warns of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas until tomorrow. Residents have been advised to stay away from water bodies, river embankments, and loose structures to avoid accidents. (KNO)

Restoration of statehood; SC grants 8 weeks’ time to SG to seek instructions, orders listing of pleas on October 10

Srinagar: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted eight weeks’ time to the Solicitor General of India (SGI) to seek instructions from the government regarding pleas seeking the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai, adjourned the matter to allow SGI Tushar Mehta to seek instructions from the government.

“List all these matters on 10.10.2025,” the CJI headed bench said, in an order, a copy of which is in possession of KNO, Appearing on behalf of the petitioners—Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and Khursheed Ahmad Malik—senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan referred to the assurance given by the Union of India to the five-judge Constitution Bench that heard the Article 370 case.“The Solicitor General for Union of India submitted that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir and that its status as Union Territory is temporary. The Solicitor General submitted that the status of Union Territory of Ladakh will not be affected by the restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir,” Sankaranarayanan said, quoting excerpts from the Article 370 judgment.

He submitted that Constitution Bench did not delve into the legality of the reorganisation, solely relying on the submissions made by the Union of India.

“Unanimously, based on those submissions, Your Lordships were not drawn into answering the question on which we had made submissions and all were prepared to argue,” he said.

He further pointed out that the assurance of restoring statehood was linked to the completion of elections.

“It has been 21 months since that judgment. There has been no movement towards it (statehood), partly because Your Lordships trusted the Government that they will implement statehood,” he argued.

He urged the Court to constitute a bench and fix a timeline for it.

Appearing for the Union of India, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta questioned the maintainability of the miscellaneous application. “We assured two things: elections would be held, and thereafter, statehood. Elections have been held. Your Lordships are aware of the peculiar situation emerging from this part of our country. There are several considerations which go into the decision-making process. I don’t know why this issue is being agitated. This particular state is not the right state to muddy the waters. Why are they doing this?” he said.

Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan emphasized that the legality of the assurance given by the Union of India is itself a important issue.

“Legality of assurance is also an important issue. It is a very important issue of federalism,” he argued.

Chief Justice Gavai remarked that ground realities have to be taken into consideration. “You also have to take into consideration the ground realities. You cannot ignore what has happened in Pahalgam,” the CJI remarked. (KNO)

On 79th I-Day eve, Prez Murmu says India’s befitting reply to Pahalgam terror attack sent a clear message

0

Srinagar: Terming April 22 Pahalgam terror attack as “cowardly and inhuman”, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that our befitting reply made it clear to the world  that India won’t succumb and terrorism won’t be tolerated.

President Murmu, while addressing the nation on the eve of 79th Independence Day, according to KNO, condemned the scourge of terrorism that struck the country this year, describing the killing of innocent holidaymakers in Kashmir (Pahalgam) as a barbaric act aimed at dividing the nation. “India responded with remarkable unity, sending a message to the world,” she added.

“India responded in a decisive manner and with steely resolve by launching Operation Sindoor,” she said, adding, “ It (Operation Sindoor) demonstrated that  our armed forces are prepared to meet any eventuality when it comes to guarding the nation.”

The President described the ‘Operation Sindoor’ a significant landmark in the global fight against terrorism. “With strategic clarity and technical capability, our armed forces destroyed terrorist hubs across the border,” she said.

“In our response, what was most noticeable was our unity, which is also the most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us. Our unity was on display also in the multi-party delegations of the Members of Parliament that reached out to various nations to explain India’s position. The world has taken note of India’s stance, that we will not be the aggressor, but we will not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens,” she said.

She linked this success to growing domestic capability under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. “Our indigenous manufacturing has achieved the critical level that makes us self-sufficient in meeting many of our security requirements.”

She said, “India responded with unity post-terror attack which was the most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us.”

“Operation Sindoor was not only a military success but also a test case for India’s defence self-reliance. The outcome has proved we are on the right path.”

Beyond security, the President also spoke of national development goals. “India is placed on the path of becoming a developed economy by 2047,” she said, citing good governance and zero tolerance for corruption as essential elements of that mission.

She reminded the country of its cultural and economic roots, marking August 7 as National Handloom Day. “Let us resolve to buy and use Indian products,” she urged, connecting the message to the ongoing Swadeshi and Make-in-India efforts.

She also extended greetings to security personnel, civil servants, the judiciary, diplomats, and the diaspora. “With contribution from all of us, we will leave behind a planet in which life will be flourishing in natural order.”

AUGUST 15 ETCHED IN OUR COLLECTIVE MEMORY

President Murmu said, “The August 15 is a date etched in our collective memory. During the long years of colonial rule, generations of Indians dreamt of the day of independence. Men and women, old and young, from all parts of the country, yearned to throw away the yoke of foreign rule. Their struggle was marked by robust optimism, which has continued to propel our progress since Independence too.”

She said, “As we salute the tricolour tomorrow, we will also be paying homage to the memory of all freedom fighters whose sacrifices won India Independence on the 15th of August, 78 years ago.”

“After regaining our freedom, we also became a democracy with universal adult franchise. In other words, we the people of India put the power to shape our destiny in the hands of each of us, without any restrictions of gender, religion and other factors that had barred many people from voting in other democracies,” the President said.

INDIA MADE SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO DEMOCRACY

“In spite of many challenges, the people of India made a successful transition to democracy. The transition was a natural reflection of our ancient democratic ethos. India had the oldest republics in the world. It is rightly acknowledged as the mother of democracy. When we adopted the Constitution, it provided the edifice of democracy. We built democratic institutions that strengthened the practice of democracy. We prize our Constitution and our democracy above everything else,” she said.

“As we look back on the past, we must not forget the pain inflicted by the Partition of the country. Today we observed Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas. Terrible violence was witnessed, and millions were forced to relocate due to Partition. Today, we pay tributes to the victims of the follies of history,” she added.

CONSTITUTION CONTAINS FOUR VALUES

“Our Constitution contains four values as the four pillars upholding our democracy. They are – justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. These are our civilisational principles that we re-discovered during the Freedom Struggle,” she said, adding, “At the heart of them all, I believe, is the notion of human dignity. Every human being is equal, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. Everyone should have equal access to healthcare and education. Everyone should have equal opportunity. Those who had been traditionally at a disadvantage needed to be given a helping hand.”

“Keeping these principles foremost in mind, we started a new journey in 1947. After the long years of foreign rule, India was in utter poverty at the time of Independence. But in the 78 years since then, we have made extraordinary progress in all fields. India is well on the way to becoming a self-reliant nation and is moving ahead with great confidence,” she added.

INDIA AMONG FASTEST GROWING ECONOMIES

“In the economic field, our achievements are all the more noticeable. With a GDP growth rate of 6.5 percent in the last fiscal, India is the fastest growing among the major economies in the world. Even amid stress in the global economy, demand at home is pacing ahead. Inflation has remained under control. Exports are rising. All key indicators show the economy in the pink of health. This is as much due to carefully calibrated reforms and sagacious economic management as due to the hard work and dedication of our workers and farmers,” she said.

“A large number of people have been pulled out of poverty through good governance. The government has been running a series of welfare initiatives for the poor and also for those who have risen above the poverty line but are still vulnerable, so that they do not fall below it again. This is reflected in the rising expenditure on social services. Income inequality is reducing. Regional disparities are also disappearing. The States and regions, earlier known for weaker economic performance, are now showing their true potential and catching up with the front-runners,” the President said.

OUR BUSINESS LEADERS HAVE ALWAYS EXHIBITED CAN-DO SPIRIT

“Our business leaders, small and medium industries and traders have always exhibited a can-do spirit; what was needed was removing the bottlenecks in the path of wealth creation. That is so visible when it comes to infrastructure development over the past decade. We have expanded and strengthened the National Highway network under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The Railways too have innovated, introducing new types of trains and coaches equipped with latest technologies. The inauguration of the rail link in Kashmir valley is a major accomplishment. Rail connectivity with the valley will boost trade and tourism in the region and open new economic possibilities. This engineering marvel at Kashmir is a historic milestone for our country,” she said.

COUNTRY WITNESSING RAPID URBANIZATION

“The country is rapidly urbanizing. Hence, the Government has been paying special attention to improve the conditions of the cities. Addressing the key area of urban transport, the Government has expanded metro rail facilities. The number of cities with a metro rail service has gone up multifold in a decade.  The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, or AMRUT, has ensured more and more households have access to a tap with the assured supply of water and a sewerage connection,” she said, adding, “The Government considers the basic amenities of life as rightful claims of the citizens. The Jal Jeevan Mission is making progress in providing tap water supply to rural households.”

“In the healthcare sector, we have been witnessing a paradigm shift with a variety of initiatives under Ayushman Bharat, the largest healthcare scheme of its kind in the world. This scheme has already provided cover to more than 55 crore people. The government extended this benefit to all senior citizens of the age of 70 years and above, regardless of their income. As inequalities in access are removed, the poor and the lower middle-class also benefit from the best possible health-care facilities,” she added.

IN DIGITAL AGE INDIA HAS SEEN MOST DRAMATIC ADVANCES

“In this Digital Age, it is apt that one sector in India that has seen the most dramatic advances is information technology. Nearly all villages have 4G mobile connectivity, and the remaining few thousands will be covered soon. This has made possible large-scale adoption of digital payment technologies, in which India has become a world leader in a short span. It has also supported Direct Benefit Transfer, which ensures that welfare benefits reach the intended beneficiaries without glitch and leakage. More than half of the total number of digital transactions in the world take place in India. These developments have created a vibrant digital economy whose contribution to the country’s GDP is increasing year on year,” she said.

“Artificial intelligence is the next stage of technological advancement and has already entered our lives. The government has launched the India-AI mission to strengthen the country’s AI capabilities. It is also helping to build AI models that answer to India’s specific requirements. As we aspire to become a global-AI-hub by 2047, our focus will remain on making the best use of the advances in technology for the common people, to improve their lives by improving governance,” the President said.

“For betterment of the lives of the common people there is equal emphasis on improving the ease of doing business as well as on improving the ease of living. Development serves the purpose only when it helps those on the margins and opens new opportunities for them. Moreover, we are increasing our self-reliance in every area possible. This has added to our self-confidence and increased the momentum of our journey towards becoming Viksit Bharat,” she added.

‘NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY’

“Last week, on August 7, the country celebrated ‘National Handloom Day’ which honours our weavers and their products. Since the year 2015, we have been celebrating this day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched during our freedom struggle in the year 1905.  The spirit of Swadeshi was strengthened by Mahatma Gandhi to promote the products made by the sweat and toil of Indian artisans and crafts-persons, and by their incomparable skills. The idea of Swadeshi has been inspiring our national endeavours like Make-in-India initiative and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Let us resolve to buy and use Indian products,” she said.

ALL-ROUND ECONOMIC GROWTH COMPLEMENTED BY SOCIAL SECTOR INITIATIVES

“The all-round economic growth complemented by social sector initiatives has placed India well on the path of becoming a developed economy by 2047. With the nation marching ahead during the Amrit Kaal, I see all of us contributing to the best of our ability. I believe, there are three sections of society that will lead us on this path – youth, women and the communities that had for long remained on the margins,” she said.

“Our youth have finally found the right environment for the realisation of their dreams. The National Education Policy has brought in far-reaching changes, aligning learning with values, and skills with tradition. Employment opportunities are booming. For those with entrepreneurial aspirations, the Government has created the most conducive ecosystem. Fueled by young minds, our space program has witnessed unprecedented expansion,” the President said.

SHUBHANSHU SHUKLA’S SPACE JOURNEY AN INSPIRATION

“I am sure that Shubhanshu Shukla’s space journey to the International Space Station has fired a whole generation to dream bigger. It will prove extremely helpful for India’s upcoming human space flight program, ‘Gaganyaan’. Brimming with a new confidence, our youth are making a mark in sports and games. Chess, for example, is now dominated by India’s youngsters like never before. We foresee transformative changes which will establish India as a global sporting power-house under the vision contained in the National Sports Policy 2025,” she said.

OUR DAUGHTERS OUR PRIDE

“Our daughters are our pride. They are breaching barriers in every field, including in the areas of defence and security. Sports are among important indicators of excellence, empowerment and potential. A nineteen-year-old girl and a thirty-eight-year-old woman from India were the finalists in the FIDE Women’s World Cup for chess championship. This underlines the sustained and globally comparable excellence across generations among our women. The gender gap in employment has also been reducing. With ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, the empowerment of women is no longer a slogan but a reality,” she added.

SC, ST, BACKWARD CLASSES SHEDDING MARGINALISED TAG

“People belonging to a major segment of our society comprising Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and other communities are shedding the tag of the marginalised. The Government has been actively helping them to realise their social and economic aspirations with several initiatives,” she said.

“India is moving ahead at a faster pace towards realizing its true potential. As our reforms and policies have created an effective platform, I can see a bright future ahead in which every one of us will be energetically contributing to the prosperity and happiness of all of us,” she added.

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CORRUPTION

“We are moving ahead towards that future with sustained good governance, and zero tolerance for corruption. Here I am reminded of an important statement by Mahatma Gandhi. He had noted, and I quote:

“Corruption and hypocrisy ought not to be inevitable products of democracy. Let us pledge to realise Gandhiji’s ideal and weed out corruption,” she added. (KNO)

3-tier security cover in place for 79th Independence Day celebrations in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is set to celebrate the 79th Independence Day under a three-tier security cover on Friday.

Officials told KNO that the main official event in Kashmir will be held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, while M A Stadium will host the central function in Jammu.

Celebrations are scheduled at all district and block headquarters, government offices, and educational institutions, they said, adding that public representatives, Deputy Commissioners, and members of Panchayati Raj Institutions will hoist the national flag at various administrative levels, including sub-districts, tehsils, and panchayats.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the events, authorities have implemented heightened security across the Union Territory.

A senior police officer said that both manpower and technology will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.

High-rise buildings around the main venues in Srinagar and Jammu have been secured by sharpshooters from the Police, CRPF and other forces, he said.

The officials said that these locations remain under constant observation, with drone surveillance being carried out to monitor the ground situation.

In Srinagar, detailed checks and identity verifications are being conducted on roads and highways, the officials added.

Security forces are carrying out random frisking of commuters and vehicles. Similar arrangements have been made in Jammu, where multiple security layers are in place at key points.

Officials in Jammu said coordination between various security agencies is ongoing to maintain order. People have been urged to cooperate with security personnel for the safety of all.

Security has also been stepped up in border areas, particularly in North Kashmir sectors like Gurez, Uri, Karnah, and Tangdhar, as well as in the Sunderbani sector of Jammu.

Along the International Border in Jammu, BSF personnel are conducting regular patrols and using digital surveillance tools to maintain constant vigilance.

The officials said surveillance and patrolling along the Line of Control (LoC) have been intensified. Forces remain on alert to respond to any infiltration attempts or ceasefire violations.

The Army has employed smart fencing and robotic surveillance systems in difficult terrains to ensure continuous monitoring.

Quadcopters and drones with night vision and high-resolution capabilities are being used to gather real-time intelligence.

Troops have access to bulletproof and all-terrain vehicles for quick movement in mountainous regions.

Security personnel are also undergoing training exercises simulating potential threats to improve operational preparedness.

The officials have appealed to the public to participate in the Independence Day events and assured them that all necessary arrangements are in place for their safety. (KNO)
