District Judiciary Srinagar organised Traffic Awareness drive in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 12, : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar & Additional Spl. Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar and Kashmir Road Safety Foundation, conducted a special awareness drive in District Srinagar to sensitize the general public about the objectives and implementation of the J&K Road Safety Policy 2025.

The programme aimed at educating commuters, drivers, pedestrians, transport operators, and shopkeepers about traffic discipline, safe driving practices, and the legal consequences of traffic violations.

Informational material was distributed and on-the-spot interactions were held to reinforce the importance of responsible road usage.

The programme was graced by the august presence of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar.

The drive was marked by the presence of Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik, Spl. Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar, Ms. Mufti Nahida, Additional Spl. Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar, Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IPS) SSP Traffic Srinagar, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, DySp Lalchowk Srinagar along with officials of District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, representatives of the NGO, members of the legal fraternity, and the local public.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar, emphasized that the J&K Road Safety Policy 2025 lays special focus on minimizing road accident fatalities through stricter enforcement of traffic laws, mandatory use of helmets and seat belts, prevention of over-speeding and drunken driving, scientific road engineering measures, identification and rectification of accident-prone zones, and strengthening of emergency medical response systems. He underscored that road safety is a collective responsibility and called upon citizens to actively cooperate with enforcement agencies in fostering a culture of discipline and safety on roads.

During his interaction with the media, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik, Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Kashmir highlighted that legal awareness is a powerful instrument in preventing road accidents and promoting responsible civic behaviour. He observed that ignorance of traffic laws often results in avoidable mishaps and stressed the necessity of sustained public outreach programmes to instill accountability among drivers and pedestrians alike.

He further reiterated the pivotal role of the Legal Services Authority in spreading awareness about citizens’ rights and duties under the law.

Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IPS), SSP Traffic City, Srinagar, also interacted with the Media Persons and stated that maximum number of cases involving road accidents are because of substance abuse.

During the drive Ms. Mufti Nahida, Additional Spl. Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar also interacted extensively with locals and drivers.

 

In her concluding remarks Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, Ms. Tabassum Qadir Parray, reiterated the commitment of District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, in making roads safer for commuters. She patiently heard the grievances of the commercial vehicle drivers and assured them necessary measure would be taken to ensure smoother traffic management and enhanced road safety in the district.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of officials from Traffic Department, volunteers, and drivers reflecting a shared commitment towards making Srinagar’s roads safer for all.(CNS)

J&K Horticulture Department Hosts Buyer–Seller Meet in Delhi, Boosts Market Linkages for Farmers.

New Delhi , 12 April.The Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Jammu and Kashmir, organized a one-day Buyer–Seller Meet at Hotel Samrat, New Delhi, on 12 February, with the objective of strengthening market linkages for horticulture and allied produce of the Union Territory.

A total of 80 progressive farmers, growers, and traders representing all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir were facilitated by the Department to participate in the event. Prominent traders from Azadpur Mandi, Khari Baoli, Naya Bazar, and adjoining states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Hyderabad dealing in fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, pulses, and processed food products, actively participated and interacted with the visiting farmers and traders from Jammu and Kashmir. The interactions resulted in the establishment of new trade linkages and business opportunities for horticulture stakeholders of the UT.
On the occasion, Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing, J&K, Shri Ghulam Jeelani Zargar welcomed the participants and delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the diverse agricultural and horticultural produce of Jammu and Kashmir, its quality advantages, and the export potential of various commodities.
Distinguished officials including General Manager APEDA, Mrs. Vinita Sudhanshu, Regional Manager APEDA, Mrs. Sehreen, Deputy Agricultural Marketing Advisor (DMI), Mr. B. K. Prushty, Deputy Director NHB, and Business Head,FICCI, CA store operators, also addressed the gathering and deliberated on market expansion, export promotion, and value-chain strengthening initiatives.
The participating farmers, traders, and representatives from government and civil organizations highly appreciated the efforts of the Department and requested that more such Buyer–Seller Meets be organized in the future to further enhance market access and income opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pulwama Police arrest drug peddler in Pulwama, Psychotropic substance recovered

Srinagar: Feb 11: In a continued crackdown on drug menace, J&K Police in Pulwama have arrested a drug peddler and recovered Psychotropic substance from his possession.

A police party of Police Station Rajpora, during routine patrolling duty at Hanjan Balla, intercepted a suspicious individual identified a Javid Ahmad Dar, son of Gh. Mohd Dar, resident of Rajpora. During his personal search, psychotropic substances (Petril (03½ strips), Anxit (01 strip), Tramadol (24½ strips), Pregabalin (06½ strips) and Rexcof (04 bottles) were recovered from his possession. The contraband Substance was seized on the spot and the accused was arrested. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 10/2026 has been registered at Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been initiated.

J&K Police remains committed of making the society drug-free and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens. Public cooperation remains vital in this fight against the menace of drugs.

IGP Kashmir Chairs Joint Security Review Meeting at PCR Kashmir

Srinagar: February 11: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Shri V.K. Birdi, IPS, chaired a high-level joint security review meeting at Police Control Room Kashmir in view of forthcoming important events.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of J&K Police, Intelligence Agencies, Army, Railways and Central Armed Police Forces deployed in the Kashmir Zone.

IGP Kashmir reviewed the prevailing security situation and took stock of preparedness and coordination measures put in place for the upcoming events. Emphasis was laid on effective intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination and sustained public cooperation to maintain peace and security.

District Police Chiefs were directed to intensify market checking drives in coordination with the Civil Administration to curb hoarding, black marketing and overpricing of essential commodities. District heads were also instructed to enhance community engagement to ensure smooth conduct of religious and public events.

In view of the anticipated increase in tourist footfall, enhanced security measures were ordered at tourist destinations. Security of railway stations and tracks was reviewed, with directions for intensified patrolling, surveillance and preventive measures, including awareness initiatives to avert mishaps. Security arrangements along the National Highway were also reviewed and directions issued for further strengthening.

IGP Kashmir directed all officers to remain vigilant, strengthen intelligence and response mechanisms, and ensure close coordination for the smooth and peaceful conduct of forthcoming events across the Kashmir Valley.

District Administration Srinagar Organises Mega Awareness-cum-Spot Registration Camp for Vay Vandana Cards at Kashmir Haat

SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 12:In a significant outreach initiative to ensure maximum coverage of eligible senior citizens aged 70 years and above under Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme providing additional health support, the District Administration Srinagar organized a mega Mega Awareness-cum-Spot Registration Camp at Kashmir Haat.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, presided over the awareness programme, which witnessed overwhelming participation from senior citizens across the district.

During the camp, several dedicated counters were set up by the Health Department and Common Service Centre (CSC) teams to facilitate on-the-spot registration and provide detailed information about the schemes ensuring hassle-free enrolment of all eligible beneficiaries.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the benefits of the Ayushman Vay Vandana card and urged senior citizens to avail maximum benefits under the scheme. He said the scheme provides comprehensive healthcare security to citizens aged 70 years and above, ensuring financial protection against medical expenses.

The DC stated that the objective of such public awareness camps is to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach every eligible beneficiary so that they can avail assistance in times of medical need.

While lauding the District Health machinery, District Treasuries, CSC teams and field functionaries for successfully organizing the camp , the DC emphasized the need for wider outreach. He directed that similar Awareness-cum-Spot Registration Camps be organized in all Medical Zones and Blocks of the district to expand the ambit and coverage of the scheme.

He also urged participants to spread awareness about the benefits of the Vay Vandana Scheme so that every eligible individual is enrolled and can utilize the Vay Vandana card during emergencies.

During the camp, the DC also handed over Ayushman Vay Vandana cards to the senior citizens of the district.

DC Srinagar presides over Mega Awareness Camp in Harwan for coverage under Government welfare schemes

SRINAGAR FEB10:- With an aim to cover every eligible beneficiary under Government welfare schemes in rural areas, ensuring no eligible beneficiary is left out, a mega awareness camp was held at Nayabat Office in Harwan Block of Srinagar district.

 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Akshay Labroo, presided over the awareness programme organised by Block Development Office, Harwan in collaboration with District Administration Srinagar.

 

The awareness programme focused on identifying left-out and eligible citizens, providing on-the-spot facilitation, ensuring timely documentation and enabling instant registration through departmental counters and CSC support ensuring 100% coverage and last-mile delivery of key schemes of various departments.

 

The awareness camp witnessed a large participation of people from Harwan, Fakir Gujri, Dara, Syedpora and other adjoining villages who were sensitized about the benefits of various welfare schemes including Vay Vandana Yojana(VVY), Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan(PMSYM, ABHA, JK SEHAT, PM-KUSUM, Pension schemes of Social Welfare Department and other allied schemes.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized that the purpose of saturation is not merely conducting camps, but ensuring that the benefits of Government welfare schemes reach every deserving household. He stressed upon coordinated efforts of all departments, field functionaries, and local institutions to ensure doorstep service delivery, real-time grievance redressal and awareness generation at the village level.

 

While highlighting the benefits of the schemes, the DC urged people to take maximum benefit from the awareness camp and get register under the scheme as per eligibility.

 

The DC also directed Officers to continue the camp for next few days so that beneficiaries are registered under the schemes within the stipulated timeframe.

 

During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner handed over VVY and PMSYM cards to the eligible beneficiaries. In addition, the DC also inaugurated a Special Health Camp and a dedicated Registration Camp for VVY, PMSYM and other schemes, enabling on-the-spot registrations and facilitation for the public.

Awantipora Police Exposes QR Code Fraud In Awantipora; Accused Arrested

Police in Awantipora have taken cognizance of complaints regarding cheating of local shopkeepers through misuse of QR codes for digital payments.

During the course of inquiry under the supervision of SHO PS Awantipora Insp Aijaz Ahmad, it was revealed that Sameer Ahmad Hajam son of Shabir Ahmad Hajam resident of Boh, Awantipora was involved in cheating shopkeepers by showing fake/forged payment confirmation through QR codes and dishonestly obtaining money. Subsequently, he was arrested in the instant case.

 

Police have initiated necessary legal action as per law, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the fraud and involvement of any other persons.

Shopkeepers and the general public are advised to verify successful credit of payments in their bank accounts before handing over goods, and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station. Police remain committed to protecting citizens from cyber and digital frauds.“`

6 Medical Shops Sealed in District Anantnag

  1. Anantnag: A team of Drug Control authority from District Anantnag conducted surprise inspections of medical sale establishments in Seer Hamdan, KP Road Anantnag, and adjoining areas.

As per sources ,During the drive, several drug samples from lesser known pharmaceutical companies were collected for laboratory analysis. In Seer Hamdan, the sale operations of three medical establishments were disallowed due to non-maintenance of mandatory records related to Schedule H1 drugs.

 

Sources said that,Overall six medical sale establishments in the district were sealed for violations of drug control norms. The chemists were sensitized about proper procurement of medicines from authorized dealers and strict adherence to guidelines regarding stocking, dispensing, and maintaining records of Schedule H1 drugs.

Authorities reiterated that such inspections will continue to ensure safe and regulated availability of medicines in the market.

DC Srinagar conducts field survey of proposed sites for construction of Vehicle Under Pass at Mominabad, Nowgam and Foot Over Bridge near Children’s Hospital Bemina

SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 09:- The Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Monday conducted a tour of the City areas and carried out on-site visit of proposed Vehicular Underpasses(VUP) and Foot Over Bridge(FOB) at vital traffic junctions in the District aimed at ensuring traffic decongestion and improved connectivity to facilitate smooth movement of commuters.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Joint Commissioner SMC, Nuzhat Khurshid, SP Traffic, Zaheer Ahmad, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, SDM West, Irfan Bahadur, Superintending Engineer R&B, Tatheer Manzoor,Executive Engineers of PHE, R&B, KPDCL, Tehsildar Shalteng, Chief Sanitation Officer besides others accompanied the DC during the visit.

During the tour, the DC inspected the proposed sites identified for construction of vehicular underpasses at the Mominabad intersection and Railway Crossing Nowgam, besides a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) near the busy junction at Children’s Hospital, Bemina. The inspections were carried out to assess ground conditions with regard to feasibility, land demarcation, utility shifting and alignment of the projects with the City’s traffic management and infrastructure upgradation plans.

While taking spot inspections of the infrastructure upgradation projects, the DC underscored the need for effective inter-departmental coordination among line departments including Revenue, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), R&B, PHE, KPDCL and Traffic Police, in order to ensure timely execution of the projects with minimal inconvenience to the general public. He also directed the concerned officers to expedite necessary technical evaluations, utility shifting measures and administrative processes to facilitate early commencement and timely completion of the works.

 

The DC further emphasized the importance of time-bound execution of these projects, stating that the proposed infrastructure would play a crucial role in traffic decongestion, smoother vehicular movement and enhanced connectivity in vital traffic junctions of Srinagar. He added that these major projects at Nowgam, Mominabad and Children’s Hospital Bemina, funded by The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, are part of the administration’s planned and sustainable development initiatives aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure in the City.

Meanwhile, the DC also visited Parimpora and took stock of traffic movement and related infrastructure requirements in the area.

DC Srinagar, SSP Traffic visits Shankaracharya Temple

SRINAGAR Feb 07: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Saturday along with SSP Traffic Police, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat visited the Shankaracharya Temple to review and finalize arrangements for the upcoming festival of Mahashivratri, scheduled to be celebrated on February 14th & 15th, 2026. The festival holds immense religious and cultural significance and is observed with great devotion, particularly by the Kashmiri Pandit community.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz; Joint Commissioner SMC, Nuzhat Khurshid; Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar; Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tahir Sajad; Executive Engineers of PHE R&B, KPDCL, Tehsildar South, Tehsildar Khanyar, Chief Sanitation Officer and other concerned, besides, Additional Secretary Dharmarth Trust, Avisash Fotedar and Vidhu Sharma accompanied the DC during the visit.

While reviewing the arrangements on the spot, the DC directed the concerned departments to ensure that all basic facilities are put in place well in advance for the devotees expected to visit the historic Shankaracharya Temple . He asked the officers of the line departments to ensure all necessary arrangements for a smooth, safe, and enriching pilgrimage experience for the devotees on this auspicious occasion.

The DC instructed for ensuring hassle-free traffic movement for the devotees, besides adequate facilities at the designated place for parking of the vehicles. He also stressed for adequate shuttle bus services to ferry devotees from different parts of the city to the Shankaracharya Temple on Mahashivratri .

Stressing the importance of cleanliness, the DC directed the SMC authorities to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene at the Shankaracharya Temple premises and along the entire pilgrimage route. He also instructed for adequate arrangements for urinals and sanitation facilities. Additionally, he asked for ensuring all streetlights from Nehru Park to the Temple are made functional.

The DC further directed for ensuring uninterrupted supply of electricity and adequate drinking water facility at the venue so that Yatris do not face any inconvenience during their visit
