Anantnag, Feb 13: Acting on directions to ensure strict enforcement of drug regulations, the Drugs Control Department, Anantnag carried out intensive inspections across Bijbehara and adjoining areas today sources said.
The inspection drive was aimed at verifying compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, particularly focusing on the sale, storage and documentation of medicines. Teams of drug control officers visited several retail and wholesale medical establishments to check adherence to licence conditions and prescribed norms.
Sources revealed, that CCTV surveillance systems and computerized billing records of various firms were examined during the inspections to verify transparency in sales and to ensure that medicines, especially those falling under restricted categories, were being dispensed strictly as per regulations. Records relating to purchase and sale of drugs were also scrutinized, said sources.
During the course of the drive, serious violations were detected at three medical shops. “The operations of those establishments were closed on the spot for violation of the conditions of the drug sale licence and non compliance with mandatory norms,” sources said, adding that further proceedings under relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act are being initiated.
According to Sources, the department will continue such surprise inspections across the district to ensure that the supply chain of medicines remains regulated and that patients receive safe and quality drugs. Also urged all license holders to maintain proper records, install functional CCTV systems, and strictly follow billing and prescription norms to avoid punitive action.
Highly placed sources said that department is reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and warned that any deviation from established rules would invite strict enforcement measures in the coming days.
