Srinagar, Aug 25, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Jammu-based man accused of allegedly cheating a complainant of lakhs of rupees by promising to arrange medicines at a cheaper rate for his wife, who was suffering from cancer.
The chargesheet has been presented before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 25/2026 registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused has been identified as Afaq Ahmad Thug, son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of New Colony, Hazratbal, near Shiwala Mandir, Anantnag, presently residing at 10-Green Enclave, Barmuni Road, Sunjwan, Jammu.
According to the Economic Offences Wing, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused approached the complainant with an offer to provide medicines required for his wife’s cancer treatment at a comparatively cheaper rate.
The complainant allegedly paid lakhs of rupees to the accused after being assured that the medicines would be supplied. However, the accused allegedly failed to provide the medicines as promised.
Following the complaint, a probe was ordered by the Economic Offences Wing. During the course of investigation, the allegations were substantiated, according to the Crime Branch.
The investigation also established that the accused and the complainant had been schoolmates at a boarding school more than four decades ago.
After completion of the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing presented the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial determination in accordance with law. [KNT]
