Srinagar, July 8: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a former Patwari, currently serving as a Naib Tehsildar, for allegedly tampering with revenue records to fraudulently claim ownership of ancestral land in Kupwara. The chargesheet in FIR No. 33/2021, registered under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 of the RPC, has been filed before the Court of the Sub-Judge/Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kupwara, against Leyaket Ali Khan, a resident of Babapora Haihama. According to the Crime Branch, the accused allegedly manipulated revenue records while serving as Patwari by making false entries in Khasra Girdawari registers, replacing official record pages, and forging revenue documents to falsely establish ownership and possession of jointly owned ancestral land in Halqa Haihama/Gundi Sana. The investigation revealed that the alleged attempt to secure wrongful ownership was prevented due to timely corrective action by the Revenue Department. However, investigators found sufficient evidence to establish offences under the relevant sections of the RPC, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings. The Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such incidents to the SSP, EOW Kashmir.
