Police Awantipora Takes Strict Action Against Illegal Sand Mining at Padgampora; FIR Registered Against 11 Persons

Awantipora:  Awantipora Police, acting upon a written complaint regarding illegal extraction of sand on the left bank of River Jhelum at Padgampora, initiated prompt legal action. The complaint highlighted that the ongoing illegal mining activities were posing a serious threat to the embankment/bund structure and could potentially endanger public infrastructure and safety.

Accordingly, FIR No. 118/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora against eleven (11) persons named in the complaint by irrigation and Flood Control Department.

Subsequently, a joint drive was carried out by a Police team accompanied by officials from the Mining Department, Irrigation Department and Flood Control Department to verify and curb the illegal activity. During the drive, sand equivalent to approximately ten (10) tippers was seized and subsequently handed over to the Mining Department for further necessary action. Additionally, one loaded tipper involved in the illegal extraction of minerals was also seized from the spot.

Awantipora Police reiterates its commitment towards enforcing the rule of law and taking stringent action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities which pose a threat to public infrastructure and environmental safety. General public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any such unlawful activities in their respective areas.
