Srinagar, May 22: Acting on a representation submitted by fruit growers regarding alleged malpractices in fruit trade activities at Fruit Mandi Sopore, the Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing (P&M) has initiated action and issued instructions to ensure transparency and fairness in trade practices.
According to official communication, concerns had been raised by growers alleging unjustified commissions and unauthorized deductions being imposed by certain traders and commission agents under the pretext of miscellaneous charges. Taking serious note of the matter, directions were passed by the Director, Horticulture Planning & Marketing (P&M), for immediate intervention and corrective measures.
The communication, signed by the Assistant Director (Administration) on behalf of the Director, instructed the Area Marketing Officer, Sopore, to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that any malpractice in trade activities is stopped immediately. The instructions also emphasized that no unauthorized commission or unjust deductions should be charged from growers and that transparent trade practices must be maintained in the larger interest of the farming community.
When contacted, the Director, Horticulture Planning & Marketing (P&M), said that traders and commission agents operating in the mandi have been asked to strictly follow legal and ethical practices in the best interest of trade. He further stated that any individual found violating established norms or indulging in malpractices would face appropriate action as per rules.
The Directorate has also sought an action-taken report from the concerned authorities to ensure compliance with the directions issued.
The move has been welcomed by fruit growers, who expressed hope that timely intervention by the department would help safeguard their interests and strengthen transparency in the fruit marketing system.
